He said: “It was fantastic for them. It was good to see their reaction when they realised what they had raised, they were really chuffed.”

John, whose 13-year-old son Charlie plays for the team, said the boys had been on tour at the end of each since the age of six.

Their next tour will see them travel to the South of France, on May 23, and it will be the first time the boys have been abroad as a team.

“We thought we would give them a little treat and take them abroad. My parents have a house near Perpignan, which is like the home of French rugby,” said John.

“The local team down there is Argeles and they asked the team to come down.” Anyone interested in sponsoring the boys on their tour should contact John on 07814563708.
