Worthing street drinker's town centre ban

A WORTHING street drinker has been banned from large parts of the town centre.

Brian Farrell, 42, was given an anti-social behaviour order at Worthing Magistrates' Court on November 30.

He is banned from an area west of Chapel Road, between West Buildings, Marine Parade and Montague Street, and east of Chapel Road between North Street, High Street and Warwick Street.

Police said he had breached an interim order, imposed in August, 13 times, spending three weeks in prison as a result, for drinking in the town and being abusive.

He has also since been charged with breaching the full order, for which he appeared before magistrates.

Farrell is banned from using or threatening violence, drinking in public or being in the company of people drinking in public, except in licensed premises he is not banned from.

Worthing Council anti-social behaviour caseworker Rachel Cave described the order as "a last resort" and said numerous organisations had worked tirelessly to try to help Mr Farrell.

She said homeless street drinkers with ASBOs were still offered help, with two such people being housed after they agreed to change their behaviour.
