Worthing teenager arrested for arson after fire at Pets at Home

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a Worthing pet shop.

Firefighters were called to Pets at Home in Red Square Retail Park, Sompting Road, at 4.48pm yesterday (May 9) to reports of a fire in the open.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said one fire engine attended from Worthing Fire Station and found pallets and waste outside the building were on fire.

One hose reel and a jet were used to extinguish the flames.

No casualties were reported, the spokesman said, and firefighters stayed at the scene until around 6pm making sure any hotspots had been dampened down.

Sussex Police were alerted by the fire service after investigators believed it may have been started deliberately.

A spokesman for Sussex Police confirmed a 15-year-old local boy was arrested on suspicion of arson and was released under investigation pending further enquiries.
