Worthing's £5 million development topped off

TOPPING-out time for a £5 million development in Worthing's North Street has coincided with the feeling that things are looking brighter on Britain's economic front.

A champagne ceremony at the new headquarters of LEMO (UK) Ltd was attended by Worthing mayor Nol Atkins, together with representatives from LEMO, construction company Denne and Worthing Council.

A silver trowel was presented to Richard Thomas, managing director of LEMO (UK).

The distinctive building is due for completion in the autumn. LEMO (UK) Ltd produces high-performance electrical and fibre optic connectors and cable assembly.

The company's specialist products are used for advanced technology applications, such as hybrid fibre links for HDTV and the Formula 1 ECU (electronic control unit).

Additional capacity is being created to meet the company's need to develop its manufacturing base, in particular its cable assembly facilities.

The project, which involves the redevelopment of the existing site, provides extra space and functionality, reflecting the company's high-tech corporate image while also being sensitive to its surroundings.

The unusual design involves the stepping back of each successive floor and includes a curved faade, allowing views through the site of the nearby church and surrounding area.

An holistic "green" approach to the entire site has been achieved with soft landscaping.
