WRISTBANDS TO BEAT UNDER-AGE DRINKERS

Security wristbands are being issued to all adults attending parties at the Uckfield Civic Centre in a bid to stop under-age drinking.

Identity checks are being carried out at the door on anyone who appears to be under the age of 21 and once proof of age has been established the wristbands are being issued.

The new rule has been brought in to make it easier for bar staff to identify who they are allowed to serve with alcohol.

The wristbands are plastic and can be removed only by cutting them off, said centre manager Susan Isted. Alcohol would not be served to anybody without a wristband or simply holding one.

The scheme had already been tested at the centre and proved successful, she said.
