Yapton children enjoy a diamond party

SANDWICHES, cakes and tiaras were used to celebrate the Queen's big day at a Yapton pre-school.

Dressed in red, white and blue, youngsters from Yapton Community Pre-school made sure their event to mark the Diamond Jubilee had style.

One of the pre-school’s leaders, Moria Bentley, said that in the past few weeks the 50 children, all aged between two and five, had really got into the party spirit.

“We have had a big lead-up to the event. The children have been making crowns, drawing the Queen, making her flowers and have even learnt the first part of the national anthem.

“The big lead-up concluded with our big tea party, during which we sang songs, ate cake and played games.

During the tea party held last Friday the children were also given a commemorative coin as a keepsake.

The children also sent a special card to the Queen wishing her a happy Diamond Jubilee.
