Yapton mum lines up firstmarathon

A Yapton single mum and student is devoting every spare minute to training for her first marathon.

Liz O'Connor wants to set a good example of an active lifestyle to her five-year-old son Liam.

She said: 'Now that Liam is back at school and the holidays are over, I can fit in three sessions a week at the gym as well as a long run at the weekend to gradually build up the miles.

Liz (23) was not known for her love of PE when she was a pupil at St Philip Howard Catholic High School in Barnham.

'It wasn't exactly my favourite subject,' she admitted. 'But Liam seems to enjoy it. He did rather well in his first sports day at the end of last term, coming first in his races.'

Liz's marathon debut will occur at the Dublin Marathon in late October. She has chosen to run for Shelter, the charity set up to prevent bad housing and homelessness from ruining peoples' lives.

'Shelter have been very helpful to me and my family when we required their assistance. I see this as my chance to do something for them in return,' stated Liz.
