Opening at Easter this new attraction will give visitors the opportunity to experience what life was like in the trenches during the First World War (1914 to 1918). The indoor experience will include atmospheric sounds heard by men in the trenches and will show what it was like to stand in the trenches with information points telling the stories of key events including The Battle of the Somme, the Third Battle of Ypres and how the war ended when Germany signs the armistice document.

Visitors can also see the effects the war had on towns and cities in the Second World War through a recreated outside blitz street scene complete with replica unexploded bomb. Discover an underground air raid shelter complete with bunk beds.

The vintage NAAFI style tearooms will have delicious wartime favourites on the menu including homemade sponge cakes and scones. Favourite tunes from the 1940’s will play in the background to add to the wartime atmosphere.

In addition to the new exhibition discover 125 years of British social living history with a walk round the superbly recreated life size street scenes and shop displays with evocative sounds and smells of the past. 150,000 nostalgic artefacts are displayed over 5 floors including the amazing royalty room which includes letters from Queen Elizabeth II to Prince Phillip and interactive displays where well known characters including Queen Victoria tell us about their lives.

Yesterday’s World also has an old fashioned sweet shop and gift shop. In the sweet shop buy traditional sweets from jars including sherbet fountains, rosy apples and retro sweets including flying saucers, white mice, cider toffee and kola cubes.

Yesterday’s World is located opposite Battle Abbey at 89-90 High Street, Battle, East Sussex, TN33 OAQ. Tel: 01424 777226 www.yesterdaysworld.co.uk
