The first workshop for the Local Enterprise and Apprenticeship Platform (LEAP) Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 programme was held this week (April 6).

This year’s programme is being delivered by Edeal on behalf of Lewes District Council. Set up in 2013, LEAP is dedicated to championing new enterprise within the Lewes District, and has so far supported 45 local people through an intensive training programme to help with their plans to start new businesses.

Nat West Bank estimates 87 per cent of businesses fail in their first year of trading.

LEAP is there to ensure the best chances of success.

Cllr Andy Smith, Leader of Lewes District Council, said: “LEAP has had some great achievements since we started the project in 2013, with more than 75 per cent of previous candidates going on to start their own business.

“I am pleased to take this opportunity to welcome the first candidates for this year’s Entrepreneur of the Year competition for 2016. I am particularly pleased the LEAP award will once again be announced at our highly-successful Lewes District Business Awards in July.”
