Youngsters make music for charity

Big-hearted children made music for a good cause at an annual charity concert.

'Children for Children' was held at The Congress Theatre, Eastbourne on February 7.

The charity concert, organised by the East Sussex Music Service, raised money for the Children with Cancer Charity, Polegate, and Demelza House Children's Hospice.

The concert showcased a rich variety of musical talent from across the area and around 400 children, aged between six and 18, took part.

Young musicians from the Eastbourne Area Music Centre performed in many different ensembles, bands and orchestras. The concert included all kinds of music from Disney selections to Robbie Williams, and from Gershwin to U2. The concert featured all musicians singing in a grand finale version of 'We are the World'.

Cllr John Barnes, chairman of the East Sussex Music Service Management Committee, said: "It is wonderful to see all of these children of different abilities and background coming together like this. They are using their talent and love of music to help young people less fortunate than themselves which is a great example of the work East Sussex Music Service does."

East Sussex Music Service is a County Council service which aims to bring music opportunities to children across the county to enhance all areas of their educational and social development. It provides instrumental lessons in schools, music centre activities, specialist music courses, a summer school, consultancy and advisory services to parents and students, orchestral and ensemble concerts, award winning regional and county orchestras, bands and choirs.
