Youngsters vie for votes

With the 'real' politicians wearing themselves out plying for our votes, year five and six pupils at Charters Ancaster Preparatory School, Bexhill, have been conducting their own political campaign.

There were three parties in the race to persuade the rest of the school '“ including staff '“ to vote for them.

The 'Crumb Party', led by Lewis Humphreys, wanted everyone to drive pollution-free electric cars and want to raise old age pensions.

The 'Smartie Party', whose leader is Joshua Bowler, wanted to improve playground facilities and lower the price of petrol.

'Shining Shadows', led by James Keo, wanted people to grow more fruit and vegetables in their gardens and hoped to provide more day centres for the elderly.

A polling station was set up in school, complete with a fierce policeman who will supervise proceedings as ballot papers are posted in the 'official ballot box'.
