Your chance to meet a medical detection dog

Spokeswoman Esther Clark said: “There will be coffee, cake and crafts for sale. Medical Assistance dog Caspar and his owner Sue Surbey will visit to talk about their relationship.

All monies raised will go to Medical Detection Dogs to support their life-saving work.

“Milton Keynes-based Medical Detection Dogs is a charity that trains dogs to help people with life-threatening conditions, thereby improving their quality of life, even giving their independence back.

With their incredible sense of smell Medical Alert dogs support individuals with illnesses like severe forms of diabetes, warning them of life-threatening episodes and thereby preventing medical emergencies.

“The dogs save lives on a daily basis. The charity also train dogs to help scientists identify the odour of cancer; they have trained dogs to identify bladder cancer and are now working on prostate and breast cancer studies. In cooperation with linked universities they hope to identify the volatiles that the dogs recognise with a view to develop an ‘electronic nose’; a simple, reliable and non-invasive early screening method for cancer. “While the internet is informative, meeting such a working dog and owner is even more exciting. On November 26, you can: diabetes dog Caspar is partnered to Sue Surbey and they will be at Sedgwick Park House. Supporters of the charity will host a coffee and cake do to raise money for Medical Detection Dogs.

There will be home-made cakes, a variety of stalls with exciting gifts suitable for Christmas or any other occasion. There will also be presentation on the extraordinary work that Medical Detection Dogs do.
