DOWN MEMORY LANE: German propaganda from the skies

A rare surviving leaflet dropped over England by the German propaganda machine in 1943 has been brought along to Down Memory Lane by Ken Talmage of Chichester.

During the war Ken was evacuated to his uncle and aunt’s farm between Winchester and Eastleigh.

It was while he was there that hundreds of the leaflets came out of the skies.

Ken is pictured with his cousins at the farm, holding some of the propaganda material which landed nearby.

People weren’t supposed to keep them – the police would come along and you had to hand them all in,” he says. “But my aunt kept two – one for herself and one for my mother.”
