1,100 runners set for Poppy Half

Runners will be out in force along Bexhill seafront once again tomorrow afternoon

Around 1,100 runners will take on the course, which starts and finishes on West Parade after looping The Polegrove and taking in the majority of Bexhill seafront over four laps, replicating 2012’s route.

The race, which will be preceded by a two-minute silence at 11am to mark Remembrance Day, is held every year to raise awareness and donations for the Royal British Legion. Since its inception in 2008, some £5,000 has been raised.

The 13.1-mile race will get underway at 12.30pm. Registration is open at the function room of main sponsor Coast Bar & Grill from 9-10.45am.

Last year saw both the men’s and women’s course records broken with James Baker clocking 1:09:55 and Rebecca Moore 1:18:32.

Every athlete will receive a commemorative medal, while the top three male and female runners will receive prize money and trophies provided by Catsfield Christmas Trees.

The event is still open for adult competitors, while there are 500m and 1km races for children starting at 12.10pm for £3 available on the day.

Spectators are encouraged to attend, but should take note that several roads lining the course will be closed between midday and 3.30pm.
