600-plus runs - but Pagham can't feat on victory at Littlehampton

Littlehampton put Pagham in, aware of their struggles last week in chasing 58.

Jordan Farrell picked up a wicket in the first over and Amjad Moshin struck in the second over to leave Pagham four for two.

A blustery innings from Wayne Green (64), who reached 50 from a measly 29 balls, turned things round before Kejel Tyson (120*) scored his first league century on English soil and captain Stuart Rutter (49) moved the score along.

The high run rate meant promotion up the order for Billy Turner-Hogg, who created further trouble for the Littlehampton bowlers, blazing 35 from just 12 balls. Pagham declared on 301 for six, having only used 44 of their allotted overs.

Littlehampton’s openers approached their task with positive intent. Chris Heberlein (34) looked in fine form but he went and Amit Midha (36) fell thanks to athletic fielding from Michael Hales, with Littlehampton 127 for two.

A third-wicket partnership of 71 followed before the wicket of opener Thomas Lee (84) was snared. Pagham’s premier bowlers Michael Hales (2-74) and Wayne Green (3-73) tipped the balance in Pagham’s favour by reducing Littlehampton to 226 for six.

Pagham were confident Littlehampton would not get the 76 needed from the last ten overs.

However, Moshin produced a remarkable display of hitting, scoring 53 from 25 balls, including three sixes in an over.

He and Michael Askew (76*) took Littlehampton past the victory total with 21 balls remaining, a stunning victory for the team bottom of the league.
