Adrian breaks British record twice in as many weeks

The athlete, who has lived most of his life in Slinfold and Horsham, has won medals at Senior World and European Championships, and was racing in the Haywards Heath Open at Crawley’s k2, where he clocked a 4mins 38.4 second mile to break the British M45 record by half a second.

And two weeks later Adrian was at it again at the British Milers club meeting at the Withdean Stadium, Brighton.

This year’s event was a celebration of 60 years since Roger Bannister’s sub four-minute mile, and competing in the A race with younger athletes helped propel round to smash his own record by more than three seconds with a time of 4mins 34.95 secs.

Before the British Milers race, Adrian had mentioned his desire to break his own record, and a pace maker was laid on for him and ran the 67/68 second laps perfectly to set him up for the record attempt.

Adrian said: “Hitting the bell I knew I had 72 seconds to break the record. I managed a steady 68 seconds to break the record comfortably. “Very satisfying achievement, but I am certain there is more to come as long as I don’t get injured or ill.” Afterwards Adrian was presented with a painting of all the previous world record milers celebrating Sir Roger Banister’s achievement.
