All work and no play? Not for Aldwick cricketers

All they had to do at the annual presentation dinner was enjoy themselves and reflect on a successful 2010 season, with the stars of the summer receiving trophies.

The club put out four weekend teams and one midweek side, and best overall batting and bowling averages awards were won by Dave Edwards and Nathan Belcher respectively. Nathan’s brother Keelan won the prize for the highest individual score (119 not out) and best bowling for the season was Ollie Smith’s six for 31. There was a tie for the fielding award as nothing could separate Chris Redman and Joel Lodge.

The captain’s award went to Ryan Purvis and colt Alex Cooper deservedly won the most improved young player of the year title and colt (under-14) best season performance. For the colt (under-17) award, Jonny Knapp was the outright winner.

Probably the most popular award of the night was Ian Guppy and Ryan Maskell’s winning of the partnership trophy.

Young Maskell’s match-winning partnership with Guppy was a highlight of the season, made even more special with Guppy’s five sixes and a four in a single over.

The club’s next event was more like hard work as members – like many in the county – took part in the ECB NatWest Cricket Force.

Armed with pots of paint, wheelbarrows and tools, they repaired, cleaned, painted and got the pavilion and facilities ready for their first game on April 16.

Nets continue at Game Set and Match in Chichester on Sunday mornings (10am-12) and new players and officials are always welcome.
