Anglers catch the prizes at Bognor... bream date in diary

BOGNOR Amateur Angling Society are hosting the 51st bream festival on Sunday, May 17.

The open-boat fishing event runs from 8am to 3pm.

An alternative date has been set aside seven days later in case weather puts paid to it.

Booking in can can done an hour before the start at one of two venues – the BRAAS boat pound, Admiralty Gardens, Felpham (PO22 7AD) or the RNLI station, Fisherman’s Quay, River Road, Littlehampton (BN17 5BL).

People need to bring their own boat and entry costs £10 for seniors, £5 for juniors. Cash prizes will be subject to numbers who enter.

The society’s presentation night saw trophies handed over by club president Jumbo Sandell and club trustee Fred Quilliam.

Silverware presented included the Maginnis Cup to pier champion Steve Middleton, the beach section Autumn Shield for the highest number of points jointly to Wayne Hart, Mark Steward and Dan Ottoway, and the EW Page Cup for the boat champion going to Debbie Shelley.

The society has held a number of matches in recent weeks.

First was a club match at the town’s pier.

Results: 1 Glen Morris, 1 pouting, 1 rockling, 10oz; 2 Derek Carr, 2 pouting, 5oz; Jt 3 Richard Semedo, 1 pouting, 4oz / Wayne Hart, 1 whiting, 4oz. 13 people fished; 6 weighed in. Total agg weight: 1lb 12oz.

BRAAS held another club match at the pier.

Results: Jt 1 Steve Osbourne, 1 pouting, 1 rockling, 6oz / Dan Middleton, 2 pouting, 6oz; 3 Jumbo Sandell, 1 whiting, 4oz.

A beach club match was held at Westend, Bognor.

Results: 1 Wayne Hart, 6 dogfish, 1 pouting, 4lb 15oz; 2 Steve Middleton, 3 dogfish, 3lb 15oz; 3 Dan Ottoway, 1 dogfish, 1lb 13oz. Heaviest fish: Dan Ottoway, dogfish, 1lb 13oz. 10 people fished, 5 weighed in. Total agg weight: 11lb 1oz.

The society held a beach open at Pagham.

Results: 1 James Davey (Leigh Park), 1 flounder, 13oz; 2 Ben Rowley (Portsmouth), 1 flounder, 11oz; 3 Dave Ware (Havant), 1 flounder, 9.5oz. Heaviest fish - flat - James Davey, 13oz flounder; round - John Sloper (Lymington), 4oz whiting. 26 people fished, 6 weighed in. Total agg weight: 2lb 11oz.

Another beach match was staged at Westend.

The society are looking for new shore and pier members. Membership is just £7.50 per year.
