Athletics: Chichester trio shine in track and field

IT was personal best performances all the way for two Chichester Runners & AC members at the annual Basingstoke YA medal meeting at a cold and overcast Down Grange Sports Centre.

Alyssa White (under-15) continued her pre-season build-up with outstanding and consistent textbook sprinting.

She convincingly won her heat of the 200m in a personal best 26.08sec – but for record purposes the wind speed was slightly over the permitted 2.0mps. However this was not the case in the final, where she comfortably won in 26.12sec – this time with a legal wind speed of 1.4mps

In the 100m, she recorded a 12.72sec PB in the heats and went on to win the final impressively with 12.76sec. Although the wind was just marginally over the 2.0mps in both cases, these are excellent times.

First-year under-13 Fleur Hollyer, who has only just turned 11, recorded a great new personal best of 32.80sec in the 200m and added a new PB of 15.90sec for her 100m.

In the long jump, she registered an encouraging season’s best jump of 3.34m.

Meanwhile in the USA, Izzie Brown, competing in the high jump for Colorado State University at an invitational meeting in Greeley, North Colorado, jumped a first-time clearance of 1.75m to take third place, a wonderful new personal best.

Her mum Joanne said: “A jump of 1.75 is a real breakthrough for Izzie and with a bit of luck should see her qualify for the NCAAA regional finals in Austin, Texas, in May this year.”
