Batsmen struggle again

RUSTINGTON Cricket Club could close the gap to second-bottom Broadbridge Heath by only a point after their eight-wicket defeat at home to Chippingdale on Saturday.

Rustington have now lost all five matches which they have completed this season and trail Heath by 19 points. Heath's only win came at home to Rustington two weeks ago.

After losing the toss and being stuck into bat, Rustington could not have got off to a worse start. Clive Mann was run out without any score on the board, next man in, Nick Collins also departed and then Mann's fellow opening batsman Jamie Howick was also out '” with the score still on 0.

It is left-handed batsman Howick's third league game for Rustington since he stopped playing at Portslade, where he was captain, early last season. He has scored just 12 runs in three innings but is more than capable of big scores. He holds Portslade's club record for runs in a season for both their 1st and 2nd XIs.
