Bexhill triple reaches national finals

Three ladies from Bexhill Bowls Club have qualified for the national stages of the Bowls England Women’s Triples Championships following a thrilling comeback in their Sussex county semi-final.

Penny Spillane, Sandra Willis and Lorraine Irvine overcame Saffron Ladies last weekend at The Preston Club in Brighton, despite going into the final end four shots behind.

Staring defeat in the face but not allowing the fat lady to sing, Bexhill scored an unbelievable six on the final end to nick their last four tie 17-16.

Their superb victory means progression to the National Finals in Leamington Spa, which will get under way on Sunday August 4.

The 2013 Bexhill Men’s Open Bowls Tournament is now just a month away. The popular annual event will take place at The Polegrove Bowls Greens from August 5-10.
