The BBC Sports Personality of the Year award winner, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1979 and came back to win the 1981 Grand National, will be at one of the village event’s stalls raising funds for the dedicated cancer hospital from 12pm to 5pm.

Sally Wyborn, 71, retired, the stall organiser, of Capel said: “It was a coincidence that I was on a cruise which Bob was lecturing in of his time in the Marsden and his fundraising for it - adding it together was what spurred me on.”

She added: “I have a close relative who is being treated at there at the moment.

“They will never cure her but she’s been kept alive by the wonderful treatment that the Marsden provides.”

Sally will hold a ‘bottle tombola’ on the day, where she will raffle off donated bottles, ‘from champagne to shampoo’.
