Bognor darts aces pair up for success

BOGNOR Friday Night Summer League’s divisional pairs knockouts took place at the Newtown Social Club. A total of 82 players turned up, equalling the second best summer league turnout on record.

Division three saw 20 players pair up and the first semi-final saw Stuart Turner and Valerie Elliott (Aldingbourne SC) lost to Dave Stone and Brian Ayling (Claremont).

The second semi was between more Claremont players and saw Gary Blackwood and Gary Miller beat team-mates Karen Winter and Mark Shrek Walker.

The final saw Blackwood and Miller take the first leg and follow it with victory in the second – courtesy of Blackwood’s double 18 finish – to secure the division-three title.

In division two, 18 pairs stepped up to the oche, the most on the night for any division.

Mark R Todd and Mark H Todd won the first semi against Simon McDougall and Larry Chant (Lumber Jacks). Pat O’Hara and son Conner O’Hara (Chi Snooker ‘A’) lost out to Dave Bourne & Andy Chant (Lumber Jacks) in the second.

Bourne finished the leg, but Todd senior levlled the match in the second. The last leg saw a slow start from both teams beforeTodd senior took to the oche with 75 left, hitting 17, 18 and double top to take the division-two pairs knockout title.

Division one had 13 pairs taking part and in the first semi-final, Colin Mace and Lee Franklin (POW ‘Z’) defeated husband and wife pairing Ashley and Debbie Clements (Jacks Jokers).

In the second, Stuart Rose and Alex Norgett (Newtown SC ‘A’) bowed out to Richard Ragless and Dave Coupland (Wheatsheaf).

The final’s first leg ended when Mace had a chance at double top which he got with his first dart. They clinched ther title in the second leg, when Mace took to the oche for double four.

The first dart was an inch outside, but the second dart hit the double, giving Mace and Franklin the division-one pairs title – Mace’s third in four years, all with different partners.

Week two’s best game was played by Lee Franklin (Squash Club) with 18 and 23 darts and a 24.44 average.
