Bognor end with win - and end Littlehampton's county league spell

Bognor ended their Sussex division three west season with a victory '“ and ended Littlehampton's 34-year stay in the county league while they were at it.

Littlehampton needed a victory at the Regis Oval which they were unable to achieve after the home side reached a daunting 254 for eight.

Rob Willway made 75 and Sam Taylor 62 while Steve Godfrey bagged four for 72.

Littlehampton did get to 213 but Willway’s four for 47 including a hat-trick and Joe Ashmore’s four for 41 ensured they were relegated to the Invitation League. Bognor ended fourth.

Bognor seconds’ last match saw them pull a tie out of a game that looked beyond them.

Littlehampton chose to bat and strikes from Andy McGregor and veteran Graham Ball (2-24) had them 84 for four. But indifferent fielding and counter-attacking batting from Paul Hewitt (66no) and Nathan Perry (42) saw Littlehampton finish on 204 for six, McGregor taking four for 75.

Bognor were 39 for four but an 87 partnership between Darren Coombs (49) and Ball pushed them on. Bognor fall to 139 for eight but a partnership of 58 between Ball and John Hooker took Bognor to within sight of the line. Hooker and McGregor took Bognor to 204 for nine for the tie.
