Bognor Regis Zen Judo Club hosted a one-day martial arts course at their South Bersted dojo.

Instructors covered a number of martial arts including judo, ju-jitsu, wado ryu karate and battojutsu.

These courses provide a chance for club members to be taught by high-grade instructors from other clubs. They then have a wider understanding of the underlining principles that run through and are common to most of the traditional martial arts.

With 15 black belts and ten kyu grades attending from five different clubs who had travelled from as far afield as Havant, Lee-on-the-Solent, Trowbridge and Northampton, it was a very good turnout.

The weekend also marked the ‘celebration of life’ at Crawley Crematorium for Peggy McCarthy, wife of the late Dominick ‘Mac’ McCarthy, eighth dan, founder of the Zen Judo family, who passed away on October 1.

The Bognor club were represented by a number of instructors and a cheque for £50 was made to the Alzheimer’s Society on behalf of the Zen Judo family.

Bognor Regis Zen Judo Club train on Mondays from 7pm to 9pm at South Bersted Church Hall, Bertsed Street, Bognor. For more information see www.brzjc.co.uk or contact chief instructor John Robertson on 07506 689314.
