Bowlers enjoy golden jubilee

GLORIOUS sunshine and an enthusiastic crowd ensured the Macbeth Cup golden jubilee proved a great success at the Polegrove Bowls Club on Saturday.

The annual tournament not only featured plenty of entertaining action but raised 820 in aid of the Royal National Institute for the Blind. Polegrove president Eric Davies presented the cheque to RNIB representative Jackie Williams.

Forty-eight teams took part in the competition. The Brian Kentfield Ladies Trophy was won by the Gullivers team of Ann Nellist, Sheila Fold, Tina Lloyd-Evans and Evelyn Voller with 30 points - a point ahead of runners-up Lorraine Kemp, Marion Boswell, J. Wheeler and J. Pole of Bexhill Women. The prizes were presented by sponsor Cllr Brian Kentfield.

The Macbeth Cup went to the quartet of Roy Chowdhury, Maurice Piper, Brian Stanley and John Voller who amassed 38 points - five more than Gullivers club-mates and runners-up Ken Ellis, Peter Fold, Laurie Jamieson and Dennis Ransom. The prizes were presented by Rother District Council chairman Cllr Robin Patten.
