Bowlers triumph

GRAHAM Phillips, 17, from Worthing Pavilion and Aaron Sexton, 12, from Newhaven B.C. helped make history in the English Riviera Open Bowls Tournament by winning the first junior pairs event for under 18s in Torquay.

In the semi-final, played over 12 ends, Aaron and Graham were up against Andrea Carpenter and Laura Tucker who play for Totnes B.C. - Laura plays for Devon Ladies. On the seventh end Aaron and Graham picked up a five, followed by another five on the tenth end to win 16-8.

The final was against Joe Melmore, 10, and Gareth Riddell, 17, from Newton Abbot. With the score at 10-10, Graham and Aaron took the last five ends to take the game by 20 shots to 10.
