BOXING: Crawley fighter Jones wants another fight after no-show

The big-money battle was due to take place at the prestigious Grand Connaught Rooms in Holborn, London.

However the former Thomas Bennett Community College student and the paying audience were left without their top of the bill contest after Mexican Jesus Arevalo failed to turn up.

No reason was given for Jones’ high-ranking opponent for not arriving, except that ‘he didn’t get on the flight.’

Instead the spectators were entertained with seven other fights plus a big-screen showing of the all-British heavyweight clash between David Haye and Tony Bellew which was taking place at the O2 Arena. Jones, 34, was understandably devastated when he found out the fight was off at 6.30pm on the night.

He said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the both of us. It was a huge shame, I was absolutely gutted.

“He didn’t get on the flight and there was no explanation given.

“The frustrating thing is that he probably won’t receive big fines, but under the British Boxing Board of Control, my fines would be heavy if I didn’t fight.

“If they can pull this off (another title fight) in the next three to four weeks it won’t be a disaster.

“I have been training full-time since Christmas and this all costs money - I cannot afford to do this without a fight at the end of it.”

Jones’ training schedule included warm weather training in Miami, Florida, which included the costs of taking out two trainers.
