Ben Jones hopes the WBO will give him the benefit of the doubt and give him ranking points as he was on the way to victory when the referee stopped the fight.

He claims his opponent had already quit the contest before the referee intervened, which could mean the fight will be awarded to Jones.

Jones, 33, said: “It was a real shame. I was boxing well, I was picking it up slowly as I do and I was getting stronger and stronger and he was getting weaker and weaker.

“The good thing is the people there know that I won. He came out of that smiling really. He wouldn’t have lasted ten rounds.

“One of the WBO top ranking officials is here and knows I was winning. That could help me get a higher rankings.

“I am absolutely gutted. I have been through hell and back, and was giving away five pounds in weight too.

“He was no idiot, he’s knocked out nearly everyone of his opponents but he wasn’t in it.

“The rules state that if he pulls out, the contest goes to the opponent and that’s what happened because my friend was in his corner being his interpreter.”
