Brame, 33, a former captain of the club is back playing for Thunder until January, when he returns to America to work. He was not expecting to play for the club this season but admitted it was an opportunity he could not turn down when coach Daniel Hildreth registered him to play.

Brame said: “I came back a month ago from the States and went back training with the team as I’d always been in contact with Danny.

“There’s a good bunch of guys here and I started practising three times a week with them and then watched them win two games over a weekend, which came after the tough loss at Plymouth.

“We hadn’t really spoken about me playing as we knew I probably wouldn’t be around for the whole season. But a couple of weeks ago, Danny asked me what I was doing on the Saturday (Leeds game). I told him I was coming to watch the team play and that’s when he told me he’d registered me to play, which was great.

“I’ve been around the club pretty much since it started and the club is in my heart, so I was happy with the opportunity.

“I didn’t play until the third quarter but then stayed on for the rest of the game in my first match back, so that was pretty cool.

“I don’t think I’ll get major minutes but I’m just happy to help out as much as I can as this is a club I love and I’d never turn down the opportunity to play for them.”

On what the team can achieve this season, Brame said: “The expectation here is to get to finals and, as a group, that’s what we want.

“We want to be in finals and challenging for the league. That’s the goal. It’s always good to set targets high and try to achieve them as there’s a really good group of talented players here and we want to be challenging for silverware. We’ve got the players here to have a very successful season.”

Thunder’s double-header weekend with Medway Park was postponed at the request of the Kent club.
