Bridges crossed by Super Sidley

SIDLEY United claimed a superb 1-0 win away to Three Bridges in the second round of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Even without eight first team players Sidley were still too good for a team that has yet to drop a point at home in the league this season.

Joint manager Peter Heritage said: "It was the Sidley of last season."

The late withdrawal of Paul Balch, Mark Rally and Chris Scott meant Matt Dadswell, Mark Funnell and Jimmy Watson formed a new-look midfield.

The trio performed magnificently and it was Funnell who grabbed the only goal just before the half hour.

A quick free kick released Russell Eldridge and his ball into the box was headed home by Funnell.

Sidley were totally in control and both Peter Baker and Ball were denied by the woodwork, while Heritage forced a fine save.
