Brighton stars at DaSH

Denton and South Heighton Junior Football Club (DaSH JFC) welcomed Albion first-team stars Joel Lynch and Dean Hammond to a training session to promote the club taking advantage of the Seagulls discount ticket rate for schools and clubs for their new Family Stand.

The club sent members to the home matches, where Albion played Crewe and then Preston North End. The club will be sending 90 members for their final visit of the season to watch the Seagulls battle Sheffield Wednesday on Bank Holiday Monday in their fight to stay in the Championship.

Joel and Dean joined in with the training games, with Joel teaching the younger members of the club to play 'Ice Monster', one of his favourite games as a child, and Dean encouraging the older children in their sprinting and shooting practice.

The children loved meeting the friendly local footballers and obtained autographs and photographs of the visiting sportsmen.

DaSH fundraiser Paula Woolven said: 'It's a great idea for clubs and schools to take groups to watch and support our local professional club. Children seem to support the Premiership sides due to increased television coverage almost every night of the week and the merchandise that's easily available.

'But how often would they get the chance to see Arsenal or Chelsea play? It should be explained to the kids that they CAN watch more than one team without being disloyal.

'In my book, a football fan is a football fan, whatever the standard the team play at. Our children have enjoyed the excellent atmosphere at the Withdean Stadium and I hope to be able to take them to the new Falmer Stadium for an even better experience before too long.

'It was great for the Albion to send Dean and Joel along to join in with us, the kids really enjoyed the session.'
