Brilliance of Bradman honoured

THE brilliance of Sir Don Bradman has been given a fitting tribute in memory of one of the last innings of his illustrious cricketing career.

A memorial plaque was unveiled at Priory Meadow Shopping Centre on the old Hastings Central Cricket Ground site where Bradman scored 143 for the Australian tourists against a South of England team in a three-day match in September 1948.

The plaque reads: "With the public he stood on a pedestal beyond the reach of all contemporaries."

Among the guests on Wednesday was England and Essex all-rounder Trevor Bailey who was the bowler who 55 years ago brought Bradman's superb knock to an end.
