British bronze for hard-working Harry

Harry Leleu competed in the British triathlon elite duathlon championships at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough, Leicestershire.

The race comprised a 2.5km run followed by a 10km bike and 1.25km run. There were 35 competitors from the around the country regarded as being the best in their sport.

Leleu, from Birdham, was in the second of four races and he got off to a good start and settled into the run. He left the first transition stage in seventh place and was in the second group of cyclists.

They closed the gap on the lead group of four and by the end of the 10k ride they were all closely packed.

The Seaford College pupil left the second transition in third place and had a very good run but was unable to catch the athlete in second place so finished third – not far behind first and second.

He was delighted as his only expectation was a top-ten finish.

This was the first event in the British Triathlon super series, which consists of seven events throughout the season.

Leleu’s aim will be to finish well in this series and be accepted into the British Triathlon Academy.
