BROADWATER HANDED EASY WIN

ALBION Play-off Final football fever has left Southwick Cricket Club unable to raise a team to face Broadwater in their Sussex Invitation League group match on Sunday.

Their bid to have their preliminary group clash moved failed when Broadwater said they were unable to make an alternative date.

A Broadwater walkover is the likely outcome in this case, in what is an inugural competition.

Southwick skipper Paul Grennan, unbeaten seven matches into his new reign as captain, said: "We asked Broadwater if we could change dates, but they have other arrangments, which is disappointing.

"It's a big day for Sussex, and a lot of the boys are Brighton fans. A special arrangment could have been made by the League because it is a one-off day. There's not many days when Brighton get to a final.

"I'm sure if Brighton ever get to another FA Cup Final or this match was on Saturday, then the League would have cancelled the matches and ran over a week at the end of the season so that everyone could watch the match."

All that cut litle ice with Broadwater captain, Joe Middleton: "It wasn't convenient for us to change the date.

"Obviously, the football's more important to Southwick. That's their choice. I'm disappointed they don't want to play because this is quite an interesting new competition. We'd have been at full strength."
