BROWNE'S TARGET REACHED

WORTHING UNITED have reached boss Ian Browne's target of 41 points, although they may now need a couple more to be certain of Division 1 football next season.

Browne was disappointed not to take all three points away from Eastbourne on Saturday, although conceded that late Eastbourne pressure could have earned the home side the points themselves.

Browne said: "In the first half we battered them and should have probably been two or three up. But in the second half they had a lot of the play and missed a couple of sitters near the end.

"It was another individual error which cost us their goal which has been the story of our season. Individual errors must have accounted for us losing around 20 points over the course of the season."

United took the lead in fortuitous circumstances on 18 minutes. Danny Keech's attempted cross from the touchline flew over the Eastbourne's keeper's head and into the top corner.

Steve Dallaway equalised for Eastbourne on 68 minutes when United failed to clear the ball, and when keeper Dean Fuller spilled a shot, Dallaway tapped home.

Bif Shelley had a great chance to make it 2-0 at the beginning of the second half but headed a wonderful Gavin Geddes cross just over.
