Charman praises “unbelievable” Jamie Cade

The striker expertly headed home Billy Joe King’s free kick in the second half to again hand the Hornets a 1-0 win over their neighbours, as he did in the reverse of the fixture back in August.

Cade’s 16th goal of the season settled an entertaining and closely-fought derby and saw him net for the fifth successive game. “You won’t see a better headed goal then that, it’s as good as it gets...it’s right up there with one of the best goals you’ll see this season,” player/manager Charman said about Cade’s 63rd minute winner.

And lavishing praise on his top scorer he added: “He’s an unbelievable football player, I wish he’d hit this form at the start of the season because I’m sure we wouldn’t be in the position we are.

“It’s not that he was playing poorly at the start of the season, he’s just got confidence now in front of goal.”

As well as his goal the former Crawley Town and Lewes frontman also produced an wonderful piece of skill to bamboozle two defenders before just firing over, a moment Charman said was like watching Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.

“He’s just on fire and he’s so important, not just on the pitch but off the pitch... Horsham Football Club, myself, Rob (Frankland, assistant manager) and Vars (Ian Varley) are very fortunate to have him.”

The game really sprang to life in the second half, with Horsham dominating the first 20 minutes after the break and deservedly going ahead, before Bridges hit back and had two great chances to equalise. The second opening saw a wonderful sliding challenge from Jahmahl King to deny Lee Carney a certain goal against his former club late on.

There were also debuts for two new signings, travelled striker Ashley Robinson and midfielder Bruno Pacheco. Former Crystal Palace youth Robinson had an unsuccessful spell at the club back in 2011, but backing him to succeed this time around Charman said: “A lot of people know about Ashley Robinson, tricks galore, a fantastic player.

“It’s up to me, Rob and Vars to get the best out of him and I’m sure we will.”

Back-to-back wins over neighbours Crawley Down and then Three Bridges lifted Horsham up to 14th in the table.

This Saturday they host Sittingbourne, who sit a place below Charman’s side in the Ryman South table having played three games less.
