Chichester had to settle for a share of the spoils when they hosted bottom side University of Bristol.

With both teams eager to take the three points, it promised to be an exciting game.

Bristol started strongly, defending well and demonstrating that given the chance, they had the skill and capability to score goals.

Chichester attacked well and were able to maintain possession but Bristol’s determination to defend made it hard.

Bristol who took the lead with a skilful and expertly -onverted goal 25 minutes in. Bristol capitalised again four minutes later when they were able to convert a penalty corner four minutes later.

Chichester continued to pose a threat and Alex Pendle hammered in a brilliant finish seconds before half-time.

The second half saw Chichester establish control and dominate possession.

Bristol had very little in the way of attacking opportunities and when they did get forward, Chichester capably dealt with them.

Chichester continued to push and eventually levelled the game with an Ollie Baxter wonder-goal.

Chi dominated possession and comfortably controlled the rest of the game but Bristol defended well, with Chichester unable to find the winning goal.

This was expected to be a tough match – but Chichester made it tougher themselves by being below par.

The need to rejig some players seemed to throw Chi and Middleton attacked swiftly. Chi could not compete.

Chichester were 1-0 down in the first ten minutes and though they did get to grips with their play it seemed to let them down at crucial moments.

Middleton scored again through a deflected shot. Chichester worked hard and when one ball was going towards the Chi open goal Charlotte Stemp saved it on the line to deny a certain goal. The opposition got their third before half-time.

Chi had a long hard look at themselves and began to pass the ball more accurately, keeping the passes shorter and more direct.

This led to Sarah Jessop scoring at the near post after quick thinking from Tracy Austin and Sarah Pack.

Middleton went on to score twice more but Chichester could hold their heads up in the second half after their persistence and hard work.

Chichester: Claire Young, Tracy Austin, Charlotte Stemp, Alex Hurd, Nat Spencer, Sarah Pack, Sarah Jessop, Rachel Trent, Maddie Wright , Cheryl Parrott, Harriet Gray, Charlotte Binning, Xenia Trueman.
