Chichester triathletes grab medals in Swanage

FOUR members of Chichester Westgate Triathlon Club took part in one of the hardest Olympic-distance triathlons in the south '“ and three came away from the Swanage event with honours.

A 1,500m sea swim was part of the course, as was a 40k bike ride over an undulating course.

The run was described as a sadistic organiser’s idea of fun.

A road run for about two miles was followed by a quarter-mile uphill climb on to Ballard Down that nearly all competitors had to walk.

A very steep downhill shingle track on to the main road was the next challenge before the very welcome sight of the finish line.

CWTC’s Mary Campbell (2hr 26.09min) was third overall female, Chandra Morton (2.39.29) won her age group (45-49) and Wilf Hill (2.35.46) won the junior category.

Although not also in the honours, the fourth member of the group, battling Del Morton (2.55.45), completed his first Olympic-distance race and first sea swim – testimony that anyone can do a triathlon with a little training and dedication.

Organisers Concept Sports complimented the CWTC on their continued success in triathlon. Chichester have winners and competitors in nearly every organised event.
