Clapp's history-making double hundred

THE biggest innings ever made in Sussex League cricket by a Worthing batsman has come in an unbeaten double hundred by their first-season captain, Dominic Clapp.

His 200 not out at the Manor Ground on Saturday against Pulborough writes new Worthing sporting history and is only the third double hundred in the league's history.

This was his maiden 200, and his 20th league century. His first came at age 17 '” then the youngest hundred by a Worthing player. He scored eight for Brighton, this was his 12th for Worthing, but his first down in Division 2.

It contained seven sixes and 23 fours and required 172 deliveries. He shared an opening stand of 116 with the in-form John Kaye, who scored 44.

But Worthing could only draw their match. Clapp declared at 301 for three but Pulborough played out for a draw at 249 for two with Clapp's opposite number, captain Rohit Jagota, their overseas player, on 125 not out.
