Colts defeat national side

A NATIONAL cricket team performed in front of a record crowd at Little Common Recreation Ground on Sunday.

The Spanish under-15s side played Little Common under-16s as part of their tour of England which included a trip to The Oval.

Having won the toss, Common captain Tom Rose decided to bowl first and was immediately rewarded when Elliott Guest removed opener J. Brook for six in the third over.

This brought former Little Common Ramblers player Matthew Winter to the wicket and he set about repairing the damage with the support of R. Ingleman (14).

He eventually fell for a well made 63 having smashed 17 off one over and Spain were bowled out for 124 in 34.3 overs. Common used 10 bowlers and the pick were Sam Webster (3-13) and Jonathan Meredith (3-16).

The Little Common opening pairing of Simon Catley and Rose put on 52 for the first wicket with Catley eventually falling to Foster for 12.

Meredith joined Rose at the wicket and they set about knocking off the remaining runs inside 25 overs, with Meredith finishing unbeaten on 39 and Rose playing a captain's innings of 44 not out. Ramblers won by nine wickets and Meredith was the player of the match.

They hope to travel to Spain for the away fixture next summer.
