Cook's good hair day

GORING cricketer Gareth Cook is to be marched off to the hairdressers by his captain Gus McVey.

It's a year since Cook declared he would not get it cut until he had either taken five wickets or made a 50 for his team, having previously been with Worthing CC.

At long last, on Saturday, Cook collected five for 57 at Arundel, off 18 overs of hair flowing romantically into the wind. Thinking he was onto a good thing, sensing the double, McVey sent him in at No 3 in the Goring reply - but Cook quickly returned, after scoring only three runs.

Now McVey reports that Cook may be procrastinating about going to the barber's, after all. But, reports McVey, with just a hint of an army officer's stance, enough is enough.

Might it be, though, that in the absence of brown envelopes at Goring, the team may need to start fining Cook more heavily than normal in order to raise the hair-cutting bill?
