Cormorants are in the swim for Sussex championships

NINETEEN Chichester Cormorants wimmers attended the county qualifier open meet at Arun Leisure Centre and achieved some fantastic results.

For some it was a very early start and a late finish – but it was a fantastic experience for all, up against tough competition from swimmers across the south and as far away as the Isle of Wight and Hastings.

The more experienced swimmers were attempting to achieve or improve their winter county qualifying times while younger swimmers were gaining valuable open-meet experience and some great PBs. Overall there were 22 county qualifying times so it looks like the club will have a great team at the winter counties this year.

Adam Long (14) took home two golds, two silver and one bronze medal and achieved county qualifying times in 200m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly.

Georgia Spink (13) took home one gold and two bronze and achieved county times for 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly. Olivia Davies (13) achieved a county time for 200m breaststroke.

Laura Docherty (12) took home a gold and a silver medal and achieved county times for 50m butterfly and 200m breaststroke. Sebastian Hadnett (12) took home two gold and two silver and got qualifying times for 50m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke.

Olivia Spink (11) won bronze and silver and earned qualifying times for 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 200m butterfly.

India Rose (11) took home a silver and achieved Sussex times for 100m backstroke and 50m backstroke. Tayla Heron (11) achieved county qualifying times for 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle.

James Potts (nine) took home a silver for the 50m backstroke and bronze medals for 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle. Isabella Rose (9) took home a silver medal for the 50m butterfly, and Lucca Everley (nine) took a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly.

Well done to all the other swimmers taking part – for some it was their first open meet. Also taking part were Hugh Willing (nine); Bethan Potts (nine); Nathan Potts (11); Ailsa Hamilton (11); Maya Solly (11); Freddie Willing (11); Jasmine Westlake (12) and Leila Solly (13).

Nicola Long and Helen Bond, two of the club’s qualified timekeepers, were being mentored for the judge level-one qualification. Helen was signed off as a chief timekeeper and Nicola had an interesting time being mentored as a turns judge.
