Cricket: 666s have a devil of a tournament at West Wittering

THIS year's West Wittering CC six-a-side tournament had a lot to live up to after last year's success and it did not disappoint.

Six teams fought for the shield in a round-robin competition, with the top two in a final. Innings of four overs each saw scores in the 60s and as low as the 20s.

The team of WWCC committee members, Dad’s Army, won the wooden spoon, losing all their games in style. Like last year, the Young Guns entered a team and proved again they are a group of very talented young cricketers, including Johnny Miller, who scored most runs, and Elliot Williams, who took most wickets.

Benicio’s Bandito’s and their pink wigs reached the final, while three teams finished on 11 points, resulting in a three-way bowl-off.

The 666s, Steve Ovett and The Young Guns all competed to knock down the stumps. The 666s and Young Guns struck before the 666s clinched it, taking them to the final.

In the final, BBs batted first and posted a modest total of 36 after tight bowling from 666s.

BBs’ bowling and fielding was equally strong. 666s required 11 off the last over and Olly Lingham-Davis hit the winning boundary, putting 666s’ name on the shield.
