CRICKET: Arundel stun local-rivals Littlehampton

ARUNDEL Cricket Club stunned their local-rivals Littlehampton on Saturday, by picking up a 106-run victory, in their Sussex League Division 3 West clash.

An excellent batting display, including 104 from Ed Lewis, helped Arundel to 229, before Littlehampton could reply with just 123 all out.

The win was just Arundel's second of the season, and will give them hope of getting off the bottom spot with a few more results in their remaining games. They inflicted mid-table Littlehampton with their third defeat.

Having won the toss, Arundel opted to bat, and lost Rohan Ardley for a duck with no runs on the board, as Luke Vinter (3-62) claimed his first wicket.

Arundel then recovered to put on a second-wicket partnership of 156, as Lewis top scored with his 104.

Harrison Temple and Justin Murray hit 26 and 19 not out, respectively, making a total of 229.

Benn Challen took the other two wickets, with figures of 2-83.

In their response Littlehampton, despite a little resistance early on, completely folded with the bat.

Rick Heberlein's 35 and Challen's 24 helped them along to 57-1, before wickets started to crash.

Seven wickeys fell for 42 runs as they found themselves at 99-8, thanks to Arundel's Ian Dabinett-Jays (5-26) ripping through the order.

Vinter managed to add 22 not out, but everyone else fell as they finished on 123. Neil Chitty also took 3-25.
