CRICKET: Luke Wright signs new three-year Sussex deal

SUSSEX CCC is delighted to announce that Luke Wright has signed a new three-year contract, which will keep the England all-rounder at Hove until the end of the 2012 season.

Wright, 24, had a fantastic first-class season with Sussex in 2009, and scored 637 runs at an average of 49, with three centuries to his name. The big-hitter performed with the ball as well, and took two five-wicket hauls in the campaign.

Wright's impressive displays spilled over in to the one-day arena, where he first made his name, and he played in England's Champions Trophy campaign, as well as the summer ODI's. He was key in Sussex's successful Twenty20 campaign, which culminated with a trip to India for the Champions League Twenty20.

His success in the longer form of the game, allied to his continued development in limited overs cricket, saw him called up to both the One Day International and Test Match squads for this winter's tour to South Africa, offering a real opportunity to cement his place in the England squad.

Wright said: "The contract extension is exciting for me and I want to be a big part of a bright future for the club.

"I love playing for Sussex and the county have been great in helping me achieve my goal of playing for England. I look forward to winning more trophies with this remarkable club in years to come."

Mark Robinson, Professional Cricket Manager, said: "Luke is one of the most exciting young players in the country and we're delighted that he has committed to the club for the immediate future."
