CRICKET: Smith hits another 100 in East Preston win

EAST PRESTON Cricket Club's Colin Smith struck his second league hundred in the space of five weeks on Saturday in his side's 70-run win over Portslade.

Smith, 47, only scored his maiden league century against Ram five weeks ago but has quickly notched up his second with a matchwinning 105 in their West Sussex Invitation League Division 1 clash against Portslade.

He had a degree of luck, though, after he was dropped on just five at mid-on by Sam Jones, off the bowling of his brother, Luke Jones.

However, he offered no further chances and went on to score 105 from 135 balls with 16 fours and three sixes. And, like his century against Ram, Smith brought up his three figures with a six '“ this time straight down the ground when he was on 99.

He has now moved on to 428 runs for the season, and said: "I'd like to get 500-600 as I've not managed that before.

"My previous best is 440, so I'd like to get past that."

Smith shared a stand of 121 with Tom Reeves (33) for the third wicket which helped EP post 221-9.

Luke Jones took 7-38 but his Portslade side were then dismissed for 151 after they fell from 126-4.

Gareth Bunday picked up 4-37, off-spinner Richard Laker took 3-50, and Mark Coskin grabbed 2-36.

The win moved EP 36 points clear of the relegation zone ahead of their free week on Saturday.
