CRICKET: Vinter blasts Littlehampton after latest defeat

LITTLEHAMPTON captain Luke Vinter branded their six-wicket defeat at the hands of Glynde, in Division 2 of the Sussex League, at the weekend, as the worst performance he has seen from a Littlehampton side.

Littlehampton batted first but managed just 67 all out after 29 overs, as just four batsmen made it into double figures, while another five went for no runs at all.

Glynde then cruised to victory, making 68-4 for just four wickets down.

Skipper Vinter, who top scored with the bat with just 16 runs, said: "It was the first time as captain that I felt let down by the players.

"The attitude was appalling, admittedly it was a poor wicket and we probably would have liked to have had a bowl, but we lost the toss and got stuck in.

"Then we seemed to use this as an excuse and blame everything on the pitch."

Daniel Rive led Littlehampton's attack with the ball and took 4-25 which Vinter believed would have put them in with a chance had they made a more respectable amount with the bat.

He said: "Dan bowled brilliantly and it just shows that if we had made a half-decent score, around 120 to 130, then we could have had something to defend. Overall, we let ourselves down.

"I can't express in words how much we need to improve going into next weekend, and it's a massive game against St James.

"It's a must-win, although I won't give up until mathematically we are down, it really won't be looking good if we lose to them."

Littlehampton are currently 50 points adrift at the bottom of the table on 70 points. Middleton are ninth, with 120, with St James sitting one place above them on 130 points.

Vinter added: "Apart from us, I would say they are the worst team in the league, but the fact that last time we played them they beat us by over 100 runs, really tells you something.

"We will need to be switched on and get down and work hard, to get a result that we are in desperate need of."
