ARUNDEL CC slumped to only 102 all out with just three batsmen making it into double figures in their loss against Bognor Regis on Saturday '“ a result which left them third from bottom in Sussex League Division 3 West.

Captain Richard James (13), Ally James (21) and Harrison Temple (17) were the only Arundel players to make it into double figures. Graham Bush led Bognor's bowling figures with 4-26, and Charith Jayaweera took 3-29.

However, Arundel also worked the ball well and looked to have got themselves back in with a shout when they reduced Bognor to 33-5.

But a fine knock from Phil Ball, with 54 not out, put Bognor right back on track and they got home with four wickets to spare. For Arundel, Temple took 3-23 and Rakesh Parmer grabbed 2-42.

Richard James said: "We were hoping to post a reasonable target but, unfortunately, were rolled for 102.

"A few batters got starts but no-one was able to convert that into a 40 or 50, which would have probably won us the game.

"When we fielded, Harrison bowled brilliantly and at the end of his initial five overs had 3-8. If we had got Phil Ball out, we would have probably won. But we didn't and he played a top draw innings for them."

East Preston's poor run in Invitation League Division 1 continued with a 31-run defeat against Felbridge & Sunnyside which leaves them winless in their last six matches.

Felbridge won the toss and set 177 all out, before EP were dismissed for 146.

EP skipper Andy Reeves said: "They started fairly well before we clawed it back to 79-5. One of their young guys then started hitting it about and got them moving again. We should have kept them to about 130. But we then batted terribly and kept on losing wickets.

"After our early successes in the season, people need to get back to doing the basics and applying themselves.

"Bad habits are starting to creep in, with lapses in the field, and some loose bowling and batting.

"It is something we need to sit down and look at before this week's match against Southwater."

After Colin Smith suggested last week that he and Reeves had been talking about retirement, the captain confirmed this week that he will not be hanging up his whites for a long while yet.

He said: "I want to play as long as I can. I'll be the sort of guy who will be following the second team around as an umpire, with my kit in the car just in case."
