Aldwick can't see for Miles at East Preston

East Preston v Aldwick

Invitation League division two

East Preston’s small boundaries have always produced high-scoring games and with 214-6 on the board Aldwick should not have been too surprised that the home side were able to overtake their decent total in the 38th over.

Aldwick’s innings wobbled from 26-1 to 58-4 with only Scott Bingham (27) looking prepared to offer resistance, mainly because of a fiery 15-over spell from Jack Sunderland (2-32).

However, the best was yet to come with the coming together of Keelan Belcher (76*) and Dan Robinson (73) who piled on 133 in a magnificent fifth-wicket stand. The visitors would have had more on the board had it not been for the later efforts of Lucy Uncles (4-52).

The key to Preston’s victory was a opening partnership of 81 which ended when Ollie Smith (1-23) made the breakthrough and outwitted 14-year old Louis Storey (49).

Tim Miles (73) went on to be his side’s top scorer and with runs from Tom Wareham-Grinstead (39) and Jack Sunderland (26*) the Aldwick total was overtaken.

John Young took 2-58 and there was a wicket apiece for Dan Robinson (1-53) but they conceded too many runs to prevent a defeat.

This week Aldwick will attempt to overcome table toppers Chippingdale 1.

Broadbridge Heath v Selsey

Depleted Selsey suffered a heavy six-wicket defeat at Broadbridge Heath.

Injuries and poor availability had Selsey travelling with ten players.

Stand-in captain Nick Horner elected to bat but Selsey crashed to 110 all out as Sam Macdonald (4/19) and Fed Bridges (4/10) help trigger a batting collapse.

Best contributions came from Tim Fewster (16), A Townshend (22) and T Amis (27).

In reply Heath had a slight wobble as Tom Amis took three for 43 but a quick 25* from Endacott helped them over the line. Selsey host promotion-chasing Horsham Trinity on Saturday knowing points are needed.

West Wittering v Ram 2nds

Division three

On a beautiful day in West Wittering, the home side welcomed Ram CC to the Millennium Meadow.

Having won the toss, Wittering elected to field first and started brightly through Harry Staight with two wickets and Matt Jewiss with one.

Witterings bowlers didn’t let up and wickets were shared between Andy Priest, Richard Hammond and Jack Harte, who was the pick of the bowlers with three well-deserved wickets. Ram were bowled out for 64.

Wittering got off to a flyer with Mark Taylor and Jack Allsobrook and victory never looked in doubt.

After Taylor fell towards the close, Gareth Lendrum finished the game with a mighty six over deep mid-wicket. Wittering remain second with a game in hand.

Aldwick 2 v Chichester Priory Park 3

Division six

Aldwick’s batsmen got out far too easily and their total of 106 all out in the 31st over was never going to be enough to prevent a Chichester victory which came by five wickets.

Six Aldwick batsman made double figures with Grant Wilson (21) and Mark Lester (17) the best of the bunch, but a mixture of poor shot selection and lack of concentration from their team-mates resulted in a final total that was impossible to defend.

Priory’s Oliver Reynolds (2-18) and Harry Bennett (2-13) did the early damage but the real destroyer was Mathew Creswick, who took 5-20 in just 4.2 overs to decimate the home side’s middle and lower order.

To their credit, Aldwick did take five wickets before the visitors achieved victory in the 23rd over with determined performances from Shwetabh Sing (26*) and Will Parker (38).

Early inroads were made by Adam Robinson (1-29) and Grant Wilson (1-11).

Wickets for Tom Hoare (1-4), Andy Burteshaw (1-14) and Richard Galvin (1-11) came later but defend the bowlers could not prevent defeat.

West Wittering 2nd v PCUK

Division seven

On a hot and humid day, West Wittering lost the toss, and PCUK elected to bat first.

Pink and Sissons opened the bowling. Pink struggled with his run-up, conceding a number of front-foot no-balls in his opening few overs.

Pink returned from the other end, working in partnership with skipper Mark Brien. Both bowled exceptionally well and wickets fell.

A middle-order partnership saw PCUK accelerate and they were bowled out in the 39th over for 200. The skipper finished with five wickets.

West Wittering openers Sissons and Trimmer looked solid and attacked the bowling before Trimmer was caught for 14.

With Sissons in fine form, the next two batsmen fell cheaply. Doyle joined Sissons and the runs flowed again, but the rate was starting to rise.

Sissons was eventually out for a well-played 75. With the run rate rising to close to ten an over, Lowther and Doyle looked to accelerate until Lowther was stumped on 12, going down the track.

West Wittering eventually finished on 186 for five, 15 short of victory.
